about

BLACK DOGS

A song about isolation and the plague of mental health, which spreads through society like a contagion of anxiety, paranoia and suicidal ideations.
Vocalist John Woods-Eley speaks of the personal mental torment that inspired him to write him to write the track… “When you are suffering from mental health issues, you are completely alone in your head, standing on the edge, descending into the darkness. No one can jump inside you and help you fight your demons… you’re just on your own. We live on a beautiful planet but an ugly world, surrounded by breath-taking beauty, but all we want to do is set it on fire… that depresses, terrifies and angers me in equal measures. Look around us at what we have created. Plagues, floods, and fires. You can’t make this shit up, it’s fucking biblical!“

lyrics

BLACK DOGS

In this rotting century of hate
Your troubled mind
My troubled mind
Our troubled minds
This world is full of suffering
The misery is taking me under
Now it’s spreading
And swallows everything
Standing here alone on the edge
Descending into the darkness
Standing here alone on the edge
Descending into the darkness
The voices are deceiving
This isn’t me I’m sinking
In a rotting century of hate
Estrangement from reality
Fading away into nothing
I didn’t want to feel
Or remember
Standing here alone on the edge
Descending into the darkness
Standing here alone on the edge
Descending into the darkness

Demons are calling me
They dig in their nails
And pull me away
Demons are calling me
All I see is the end
Just a way to escape

I don’t eat

I won’t sleep for days,
I didn’t want to feel.
I didn’t want to dream,
In this rotting century.
I didn’t want to remember anything, anymore
I didn’t want to be a part of it
This rotting century of hate
Demons and black dogs
A torture without mercy
The coldest darkest place
Demons and black dogs
A torture without mercy
The coldest, darkest, place

Dealing in an array of down-tuned riffs and barbed hooks, the UK/Gibraltarian quintet unleash an avalanche of crushing groove and belligerent aggression, broken up by some searing leads, haunting vocal melodies and devastating, earth-shaking breakdowns. ... more
